Anthropic makes Claude subscriptions accessible in India with rupee-denominated pricing

Anthropic has begun rolling out Indian rupee pricing for Claude subscriptions. This allows users to pay in local currency instead of US dollars. India is becoming Anthropic’s biggest market outside the US, accounting for 5.8 percent of Claude’s global usage.

Ending dollar-only hassle for users

For Indian users, the ability to pay in local currency removes any conversion hassles, unpredictable exchange rates, and international transaction fees that came with dollar-based billing. The only catch is that UPI payment mode is missing unlike OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

The fine print:

The localized pricing is across paid plans:

  • Claude Pro: Rs 1,999 per month
  • Claude Max (5x): Rs 9,999 per month
  • Claude Max (20x): Rs 18,999 per month
  • Claude Team: Rs 2,599 per user/month

The localized pricing is appearing on Claude’s pricing page and mobile app. Amount can slightly vary between the two platforms.

The rupee pricing lands alongside Anthropic’s bigger India push—a new Bengaluru office, a former Microsoft India executive running the region, and fresh deals with Infosys and TCS. The company removes a key barrier for Indian subscribers, making Claude’s paid plans more accessible to users who needed international payment methods.

The localized pricing makes it easier to compare Claude’s plans directly with ChatGPT and Gemini without worrying about exchange rates and transaction fees.

Beyond this, Anthropic has also extended free access to Fable 5 until July 9. This gives more users the chance to try its latest AI model before paid usage kicks in.
